• About Me:
I grew up outside of a small village in New York state. After graduating
from high school I moved to Albany, New York to study English at a small college.
Moving to the city was a drastic change for me. I went from living in the country
where the only lights at night were stars and fireflies, to living in a street
light-filled, noisy city. After college I moved up into the foothills of the
Adirondacks where I found quiet and a job as an editor. In between editing and
proofreading I was able to do some traveling, which included a trip to Oregon.
The first time I visited I knew I wanted to live here. It took some time, but
I finally moved to Eugene where I found a job as an editor at a local printer.
I left there after several years to travel again, but in doing so, I realized
that Oregon felt like my home. So I am back for good and I am now working at
RDI. I don’t think I will leave Oregon again, except maybe to visit the
fireflies. •
What I do at RDI:
I am the temporary graphic design project assistant. I help with the RIPPLE web
site, and I assist users with questions regarding usernames and passwords. I
am really happy to be here!
•
State where I was born:
New York
• What I wanted to be when I was 8 years old:
A radio DJ
•
Interesting previous job(s) I've held:
A temp agency once sent me to do registration for a one-night seminar given
by a hypnotist to help people quit smoking.
•
One of my personal goals for :
Build my own tiny off-the-grid house.
• A place I want to visit at least once in my lifetime:
Iceland
• My favorite book and why:
This is a hard question. I love books and read mostly non-fiction. Mike Tidwell
and Tim Cahill are my favorite writers, but A Good House, Building a Life on
the Land by Richard Manning is my favorite book. He writes the story of how
he built his own earth-sheltered house in Montana incorporating every detail
of the building process, including the physical aspects of the structure and
the concept of home being the place that he will share his life with his wife.
• My favorite board game:
Scrabble
• The coolest thing someone has done for me:
A couple of years ago I was on a trip with friends in Washington DC. My flight
back to Oregon was scheduled to leave from New York so I could see family before
I left, but my ride from DC to New York fell through. I happened to mention this
in a phone conversation with a friend, and he ended up driving all the way from
Kentucky to DC to get me, and then he took me all the way to my parent’s
house in New York. Friends, and people in general, can be amazing.
