Stacey Stonesifer
Community Leadership Training Coordinator
Central Oregon

• About Me:
Rural is in my bones.  I grew up in Hood River County where my family owned a small parcel of land and raised livestock.  I went on to complete a Bachelor’s degree in Speech Communications from Point Loma University and a Masters degree in Adult Education from Oregon State University. After a brief stint of city life in Portland, I was eager to return to rural life and moved to Central Oregon over 12 years ago.

Call me part educator, part trainer, and part coach.  And, of course, part driver because that’s what you do when the training is rural! The first portion of my professional career I managed as many as thirty customer service representatives in a large call center for the wireless industry.  Then I took a sabbatical and lived overseas in China, teaching English to university students. Heading back to telecom, I worked as Training and Development Manager for a rural wireless provider where I created new training programs for sales, customer service delivery, and new technology.  “Windshield time” became the operative words as I traveled extensively throughout rural Oregon and Washington, logging thousands miles to deliver the training.  I’ve spent the last two years working in the hospitality and tourism industry as a Training Manager for various communities. In this position I developed a new employee orientation and customer service program for employees who live and work in rural Oregon and Idaho.

Living in Central Oregon gives me the opportunity to participate in so many outdoor activities that I love, such as kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, skiing, snowshoeing, camping, fishing and backpacking. Just to name a few! My husband, Marty, and I were married in 2005 and we share a happy home with our canine “kids” Brandy and Levi, and our Siamese cat, Sassy.

• What I do at RDI:
I am a member of the field staff and I live in Deschutes County. I help facilitate training for The Ford Institute Leadership Program. I am so proud to be a part of this wonderful organization serving the communities that we live, work and play in.

• State where I was born:
California, but don’t tell anybody!

What I wanted to be when I was 8 years old:
The Bionic Woman! Why the Bionic Woman? Super human powers were always something I wanted. (I also like the sound that the bionic woman makes when she uses her bionic parts.)

• Interesting previous job(s) I've held:
Cat Whisperer

• One of my personal goals for :
Achieve a work / life balance and invest in my hobby of photography.

• A place I want to visit at least once in my lifetime:
Oh, the list is a mile long! Give me a plane ticket, my passport and a backpack and let me go! I have wanderlust!

• My favorite book and why:
Life and Death in Shanghai, this is a poignant autobiography of a woman’s courage during the Cultural Revolution in China that inspired me to travel and work in China.

• My favorite board game:
Operation: Operation is a battery-operated game of physical skill that tests players' hand-eye coordination. Made by Milton Bradley, it has been in production since 1965, the year in which the game was invented by John Spinello. I’d consider myself an expert at this game.

• The coolest thing someone has done for me:
When my husband proposed and I said, “Yes” that was cool!
