RDI is hosting a Rural Skill Builder at Village Green Resort and Gardens in Cottage Grove, Oregon, on Saturday, December 2, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for rural leaders and community builders from across the region. 
Rural communities are facing complex issues. Building new and advanced skills gives those who work on behalf of rural places the tools needed to be effective leaders.     Rural communities have distinct opportunities to seize in their pursuit of spurring economic growth within their communities and regions. This session will help attendees harness their abilities to identify and leverage economic assets that builds local control and advances economic prosperity. Learn how bottom-up grassroots strategies can boost your local economy.
  • Bringing Out the Best in People at Their Worst
    Gary Stewart and Peggy Boone
    Often in our community work we are faced with working with people who can be challenging. This interactive session will explore strategies for bringing out the best in people in ways that build on strengths while recognizing sometimes values and approaches may not align. The session will be built around the lessons of the popular book “Dealing with People You Can’t Stand: How to bring out the best in people at their worst.”
  • Working Across Differences: Cultures and Generations
    Christian Vazquez-Rivera and Peggy Boone  
    Glean a better understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, learn how to recognize your unconscious biases as well as micro-aggressions, and gain tools you can apply immediately.
  • Systems Leadership in Rural Communities

    The situations of our time have never been more complex, larger in scale, or more interconnected. Traditional leadership principles are excellent for community-based projects, but how do we affect the greater world and address complex and critical challenges that are systemic in nature? Learn about the mindsets, processes, and skills that comprise systems leadership—the leadership of these times.
