In fall 2018, RDI began working with the communities of Yamhill and Warrenton on an Economic Vitality Roadmap process that resulted in the formation of several initiatives, including downtown action teams. Within a few short months, the list of accomplishments was long and impressive. Their eagerness to learn all about downtown revitalization, together with a sustained volunteer effort, was a sure sign these communities were ready to join the Oregon Main Street Network. In March, both towns were accepted at the Exploring Downtown level, for communities who demonstrate an interest in revitalizing their downtowns and want to learn more about the Main Street Approach®. This qualified them for a range of start-up assistance such as:
- Invitation and notification of all statewide Oregon Main Street workshops and conferences
- Reconnaissance level historic building surveys
- Telephone consultations
- Resource lending library access
- And more
Warrenton's Brenda Hoxsey and Yamhill's Kara Weber provided leadership in helping champion the downtown action teams. Congratulations Warrenton and Yamhill!
