Convening Focuses on Supporting Existing Rural Businesses

In early September, 30 economic development practitioners from across the rural West participated in RDI's Business Retention & Expansion Summit to connect with, and learn from, others who are engaged in the hard work of supporting local existing businesses. The two-day summit in Dallas, Oregon, focused on key issues and challenges facing existing rural businesses, and topics included grassroots workforce strategies, retail competitiveness, family business succession in farming and ranching, the state of Oregon’s small business community and outlook, and more.

Due to the fires that continue to rage throughout rural Oregon and the Northwest, some registrants had difficulty traveling to the summit, but we're so happy those who could attend made it safely. As a result of the convening, communities were able to connect with one another and will continue to learn from each other going forward.

Thanks to The Ford Family Foundation, Banner Bank, Chemeketa Community College, and Pressed Coffee & Wine Bar for their generous support of the Business Retention & Expansion Summit.
